Leicester Regeneration Company marked another groundbreaking moment for the regeneration of the city with the official site launch of Ashton Business Park.

Neil Morris, chairman of Leicester Regeneration Company, and John Nicholls, the chief executive, were joined by Leicester City Councillor Mark Farmer and members of Leicester’s business community to declare the start of works at the Hoods Lane site in Beaumont Leys.

The Ashton Business Park site has been purchased from the council by English Partnerships for use as a relocation site for businesses that need to be moved from areas of the city that are being redeveloped as part of Leicester Regeneration Company’s masterplan.

Nicola Marshall, East Midlands Area Director of English Partnerships, said: “I am delighted that English Partnerships has been able to work with Leicester Regeneration Company to create and invest in Ashton Business Park. It will clearly help to enable the delivery of Leicester Regeneration Company’s important vision for the city.”

Chairman of Leicester Regeneration Company Neil Morris commented: “The start of work at Ashton Business Park is a landmark moment for the Leicester Regeneration Company as it reflects the real transformations taking place within the city of Leicester.  Our plans are now becoming reality as the city’s skyline changes and the new city of Leicester begins to take shape. The relocation of businesses to Ashton Business Park will clear the way for greater redevelopment within the city itself.”

Work, expecting to last for 13 weeks, began on the infrastructure of Ashton Business Park at the beginning of February.

Wrekin Construction, which is also involved in the redevelopment of the Shires and the realignment of highways and utilities within the city, has already begun the construction of 154 metres of side road off Hoods Close and the Bursom Industrial Estate and the installation of drainage and ‘attenuation’ systems to collect and store rain water during heavy downpours and prevent flooding.
